" Impatience "
After his second album, not only did his collaborations with Seiya Aoki stall, but the Abrasing Soul project also fell through. As a result, Enji ended up prioritizing the completion of his band SMUDGE's album, which left him feeling increasingly anxious about not being able to release any solo work. For someone like Enji, whose motto is “turn your entire life into art,” going three years without updating his life's signposts—despite pivotal moments like the “popularization” of his music, meeting Benjamin, and a growing number of live performances—was a serious concern.
Another key factor behind the decision to create this album was advice from the Hamano couple of BROCANTE during his Tokyo tour. They suggested, “Enji, you should really perform live with an acoustic guitar.” After that, he began spending more time playing a gifted 12-string guitar since August, and embracing that as part of his unique identity gave him the confidence to move forward.
Incidentally, this album was re-recorded once. Before the Tokyo tour in September, the original takes had a loose, piano-like rubato feel, but he decided that wasn’t the most listener-friendly approach. The only exception was “Brother”. For that track, he kept the original recording to preserve the exact feeling he had at the time it was written.

2024/12/01 - Acoustic Single
" Pain Goes Away "
Ahead of the release of "Impatience", he decided to drop a single from it. The choice was clear: this song stood out as the highest in quality, the catchiest, and perfectly matched the aesthetic of photos shot and edited by Fuku during Enji’s Tokyo tour in September of the same year.
This song was originally titled “4AM,” and was later renamed “Pain Pain Go Away”, then finally settling on “Pain Goes Away” at the time of designing the cover art.
In the summer of 2024, when Enji composed, he had just finished "Althé", a novel he had been sticking into since 2019. It was supposed to serve as a kind of closure, yet even after completing it, the flashbacks wouldn’t stop. Every attempt to write lyrics kept turning into an unwanted sequel to "Althé", and the frustration was building. But when 4 a.m. rolled around and sleep wouldn’t come, he picked up his guitar. With simple chords beneath the words, he decided—almost in resignation—to see the song through to the end. As a result, scattered throughout the lyrics are phrases directly lifted from Althé.
The riff itself uses material Enji had been holding onto since he was 16. The songwriting process unfolded over four stages, with the shouted vocals after the bridge added in as the final touch.

Not Released yet! - Album
" Abrasing Soul "
This album began taking shape around the fall of 2021, right in the midst of a major turning point for Enji. During the writing process, it often felt like “studying music to improve the quality of the songs” and “staying true to myself” were at odds with each other. For a time, quitting music altogether even crossed his mind. Out of that state of mind came the album's title: “Abrasing Soul”. The phrase also appears in "So Must I," a song written in tribute to Paul Simon.
While all the songwriting and most of the recording were completed by the end of 2022, various obstacles have kept the album from being released. For that reason, further details—including more about the creative process—will be shared once the release is finally out.
This album is the twin of Stick to Winter, but thanks to the technical growth gained from the previous work, there's a noticeable leap in quality.
The concept is “myself in a parallel world.” The exception is the tenth track, which is based on Enji as he truly was. Back then, there were plenty of adults Enji never wanted to become, and for a 20-year-old aspiring artist, writing lyrics with that theme was quite natural. Whereas previous works, including earlier poetry collections, were deeply consumed by anxieties around love, this album felt like a turning point—a direct confrontation with a more fundamental fear; the future.
The reason this album maintains such a consistent concept from start to finish is simple—Enji spent over a month in February holed up at his grandparents’ house in Tokyo, finishing the lyrics in one focused burst. Then in March, back home, he wrapped up the recordings. That entire month was practically spent in isolation, doing almost nothing but working on music. It was around this time that Enji met Seiya Aoki online, who contributed to the tenth track with some composition and guitar work. They later formed a band called Patina, which disbanded in 2022.

Looking back on 2020, Enji was still deeply longing for the university life missed the year before, unable to shake off the shock of how things had turned out. The idea for an album had been there since late August, when a conversation with a friend named Garo helped clarify a dream. Then I felt the need to show what I want to do, or what i can do to prove my own potential.
But having grown up listening mostly to songs that had survived for decades, I kept wondering if, someday, people years from now would criticize my music too. I obsessed over the smallest details, stacking unnecessary punch-ins, pushing free software to its limits to fix rhythms and pitch until the sound warped, and I wasn’t satisfied even then, and Winter arrived while the project still felt incomplete.
At the time (and maybe even now), I believed my truest self came out during winter. So it felt essential that this be a winter album. December, after all, is when winter feels most like itself. Clinging to that idea, I split the songs I had planned into two groups and decided to make this album—featuring the tracks that were ready then—my first release.
Although the album wasn’t available for streaming until January, the physical CDs were finished, and the very first sales (to my parents and a friend) happened on December 25th.

In March 2020, Enji was in Spain. The flight had been booked before the COVID outbreak made headlines, but just before departure, the number of cases surged to 30,000. Eventually, Enji made it to Salamanca, where a friend was waiting. Two days after sharing a meal of paella together, the city went into lockdown. Out of a five-day stay, most of the time was spent alone in a hotel room, scrolling through social media and playing games, while eating supermarket deli food and snacks. During the day, Enji wandered aimlessly, climbed hills on the outskirts of town, took pictures of the quiet streets, and shopped for groceries.
After returning to Japan, this song was originally meant to be a charity track. But as I was still underage at the time, there were too many obstacles, and I had to give up on that plan. It was my first serious attempt at making a song, so I released a lyric video on YouTube in May of the same year. During that month and a half of lockdown, I poured all my time into this project and FPS games.
The electric guitar solo was the only part entrusted to Koki, whom Enji had connected with on Twitter. Everything else—from composition to mixing—was handled entirely by 19-year-old Enji himself.
The outro guitar solo, recorded with a ¥300,000 acoustic guitar borrowed from a friend (captured via LINE, which, looking back, feels like such a waste!), unintentionally ended up being one of Enji’s earliest recorded performances.
